Go Green Thoughts

Basically every single post I have written is about helping the environment. However I haven't written about what people think about this cause and why some people simply don't care about the environment.

All of us are capable of change but not all of us are willing to change. There are still so many people out there who don't care or are not sure of global warming and the health of our planet. I have decided to gather some information on peoples thoughts and figure out some ways to change that.

Hey I'm Kaitlin of All The Rage blog. I go green because we're the future generation. It's up to us to protect our planet and keep it beautiful. Not just for ourselves, but for the people who will be here hundreds of years later.

I'm Claudia. I whole-heatedly believe in going green. I've learned so much at school and from the Story of Stuff about how bad the health of our environment is and it's quite scary. I'm not the greenest person in the world but I make everyone recycle what they can and I use public transportation as much as possible. I also LOVE IT when stores use recycled packaging and stuff. Organic food is the way to go!

anonymous - I don't care about going green

anonymous - Well, I'm not green since I've got quite a lot of experience in my life

Stiven - Burning fossil fuels is pumping billions of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, not to mention increasing dependency on resources such as oil and coal, of which there is not an endless supply.
Renewable energy is 100 percent clean and uses resources that are sustainable—sun, water, wind, etc.—and do not negatively impact the environment.
The less we consume, the fewer resources are consumed to feed the demand. Homes are poorly designed, and tend to over consume precious resources. Conserving energy can be done by simply switching to LED or Compact Fluorescent Lighting (CFL) in your home. LED lights use up to 90 percent less energy than traditional lighting.
Save money on your energy bill. You would be amazed how cutting back on water consumption, wasteful lighting practices and buying efficient appliances can save you a good chunk of cash.
Using recyclable or organic products means that toxic materials are removed from the production. The more we dispose of in landfills, the more valuable and costly materials are being wasted, as well as producing more greenhouse gases as these landfills decompose.

Clancy or GlamAndGloss01- I try my best to make the environment better.

anonymous - Going green or being environmentalist is about being reasonable with our mother nature and reasonable with yourself. I think it's the only choice if you're aware with what's going on with our earth nowadays.
I've seen and feel the difference and the noticeable changes of weather in many places as a result of global warming. I feel the difference in the air that I breathe since it become more polluted than it were before. There's a lot of changes these days which leads to the things that I don't like. These things is just a small examples of many.
My point is... What else you can do besides being environmentalist and more aware to your living environments?

hey ya its flyawaywithmexoxo aka katt. I think what your doing is great and loads more people should do it! We recycle all of the rubbish that we can at my house, and I don't really like any meat apart from pork. So I would say I am medium green if that makes sense :P

Now a days a lot of people are going green but some are still not. I could be because
  • they don't know a lot of information about the topic
  • they might be to lazy to go green
  • They don't see the point
  • or they don't think global warming to true
Whatever the reason it is easy to find info on this topic and it can be fun. Go greening is actually very easy and even if global warming doesn't exits it is still important to take care of the planet health and ours. I will be looking back on these points and posting more about each of them. Hopefully my next post will be about easy ways to go green.

Right Now Less Cow Day Three and Four

Sorry I didn't post anything yesturday. So instead I am combining day three and four together.

Thankfully I didn't watch the whole thing because I could have burfed and cried. Anywhere it's funny that it came at a good time of me doing this challenge because I started to miss meat but not anymore. On day four it wasn't very hard expect for lunch. I added way to much dressing in my salad so I didn't eat it. Thankfully I had a grilled chees sandwhich too.

My lunch was last nights dinner and I made the pie shells for the quiche last night since I had free time. I decied to make a salad at the last mintue since the dinner was very light and I was still hungrey. The salad was very basic, I had tomatoes, lettues, mushrooms, and green beans. Recycle your Books and Magazines

We all have books, newpapers and magazines lieing around our homes. Most of these items we use once and than leave them to collect dust. We can reuse books, but magazines and newpaper we often use them once and done. Imagine all those trees we use to produce these products. It would take 100 years to replace those trees. So here are some tips to reuse and recycle thoses newspapers, books, and magazine.

  • Cut out pictures and create a collage
  • Create a cook book by out recipes for magazines and newpaper put it into a binder
  • donate your old books and magazines to a library, shelter, thift store, or a book club
  • have a yard sale and sell your stuff
  • sell it on ebay
  • sell it on sites like green metropolis
  • give it to a friend or family member
  • reread them one time to see if you like it and want to keep it

I hope this helped and inspired you too donate some of your old books, newspapers, and magazine

Recycling meets Nursery Rhymes

I find a site that has songs about recycling click the link to see
here are the songs

reduce, reuse, recycle
(Sung to: Eensy Weensy Spider)
Reduce Reuse Recycle words that we all know
We have to save our planet so we can live and grow
we might be only children, but we will try you`ll see
And we can save this planet it starts with you and me

Recycle(sung to: twinkle, twinkle)

We recycle what what we use
separate things and you should too
glass and paper, plastic, tin
go in your recycling bin
we must start now, we can`t wait
Quick or it will be too late

We Recycle( sung to Frere Jacques)
We recycle

Inspired

Today I decided to talk about my blog. In my first post I told you what this blog was for, but I never that you who inspired me to create it.

Ever since I was younger I have always been interested in planets. I use to collect books on the solar system. I don't know why I loved planets so much; I guess it was cool learning about the things outside of this planet. As I started getting older I became interested in learning about Earth but I started getting real eco-friendly in grade six. My class was doing a debate on whether the earth needed us or if we needed the earth. In the end I realized that we needed the earth. There are places the are uninhabited by humans such are doing better or just fine without us. So why is it that we abuse the earth and take large amounts of resources and not put them back? This is when I started taking reusing reducing and recycling seriously. During sixth grade I started giving into fashion magazines and in seventh grade I brought my first copy of Seventeen Magazine. I decided to buy the April 2010 issue of seventeen and I am glad that I did because it inspired me to do this blog. In the issue there was an article on 17 ways to go green. I was so inspired to help the planet, but I had some trouble figuring out what to do, then I came up with creating a blog and posting, posts helping people help the environment.

In the comments tell me what inspires you.

Preparation for right now less cow

To prepare for the right now less cow challenge I have done a couple of things.

I told my mom that was going to happen so that she would know not to cook meat for me.
She was totally happy I was doing this challenge beause
  • she wouldn`t have to spent money on meat for me
  • and she wouldn`t have to make dinner everyday for me since It will probably have meat in it.
I create a list of meals I would like to try during this challenge
eggplant burgers
pasta
breakfast burritos
veggie sandwich
pasta salad
crepes
lasagne
homemade pizza
sheprads pie
spaghetti
beans and pita bread
peanut salad
rice salad

I will probably not be trying all thoses meals but I want to have an idea of what to make everyday.

Right Now Less Cow Intro

Ok so I have decided that starting on Sunday or June 13 I am going to eat not meat for a week. I have personally always wanted to be a vegetarian but I love meat too much so I will try it out for a week. If it works out maybe I will become a vegetarian, but at least for now I am trying. You are probably wondering how this has a connection to helping the environment, well it takes a lot of work and money to raise an animal.

Livestock already uses 30% of Earth’s ice-free land either as pasture or as cropland used to grow feed for the livestock. Half of the cropland in the United States is used to feed livestock. The need for additional land for pasture is responsible for deforestation. In Latin America, more than 70% of forests have been converted to pastures for grazing livestock.

Planting, fertilizing and harvesting grain like corn to feed livestock requires a lot of energy. And, given that it takes about 7 pounds of grain to grow 1 pound of beef, we can start to see how choosing meat over veggies is far more costly in terms of energy and CO2.

And that’s not the end of it. Energy is needed to transport livestock to meat processing plants. Energy is needed at the packing plants to produce and package the meat. And then more energy is needed to transport the meat from packing plants to your grocery. Almost all of that energy comes from the burning of fossil fuels. Unfortunately, the meat you eat probably isn’t coming from a farm just down the road.

When you eat less meat, you save fossil fuel and keep more greenhouse gases out of Earth’s atmosphere.

By the way I got the last four paragraphs from carbonrally.com

If you want to participate all you have to do is go for it. I will be doumenting everything from what I ate to how my day felt so you can read how the challenge is going for me. If you want everyday when I leave a post you can talk about your day and what you ate in the comments.

One again if you want to participate with me I am starting June 13- June 20
