How to Start a Eco-Friendly Club + Tips

Clubs are a great way to meet new people, make new friends and do what you love doing. I am sure your school has many clubs chess club, book club and many more, but does your school have an eco-friendly club. Clubs like this can be very fun and beneficial so way not start one.
  1. Find out if they is an eco-friendly club at your school. If there is can can join, but if you really want to start your own still you can do one like on animal awareness.
  2. The next step is to ask your princepal if you can start a eco-friendly club. Explain the purpose and who or what it is benefiting.
  3. Find a teacher who is willing to supervise and sponser your club. It is better to find a teacher you like or/and someone who is into the cause. That way they will be willing to help and might give you good ideas.
  4. Now you need to fill in the information like. The date and time of your meetings some ideas like contest, and activites, and ways you are going to aware the students of this issue.
  5. Once you have created you club ask your friends to join. If they do or don't I am sure they will help you advertise.
  6. To advertise make poster and put them on the walls. Make flyers and put them in the students lockers or pass it out to them when ever you see students that are bot busy. Or leave them in bathrooms, libraries, cafeteries, in the office and/or by the computers. Make sure you have permission to do this too.
  7. Once you have it advertised hold your first meeting. You might want to write that on the flyer including the date and time of the other meeting like every Monday at 4:00. Also include somethings you are going to be doing.
  8. During your first meeting introduce everyone so that the club is comfortable with each other. Then talk about somethings you are going to be doing and ask the club for suggests. You can then start you first task.

Tips

  • Make a folder to keep all of the clubs information so that you are organized
  • Be open and welcome to new members so that your club can grow.
  • Once in a while have contest so that the whole school can be involed too.
  • An explain of a contest is the class or homeroom that collect the most recycling wins a free pizza lunch or the class that collects the most trash bags or trash wins a prize for there class like a new cd player.
  • If you school has assemblies talk a little about about the earth and ways to help then about your eco-friendly club.
  • Do projects that help the environment like raise money to plant trees around you school or raise money to start a school garden.
  • If your school doesn't recycle start a recycling program.
  • Every week have challenges for all the classrooms and students and staff to do like turn off the light and use as much natural sunlight as possible or don't use plastic water bottles for a week or a day.
  • You could divide your school into teams of different animal or plants then you could do different challenges and collect one point from every student that completes the challenge. Then you could add the points to the group they belong in and the group with the most points wins something like ribbons or a patty party.
  • You could have a school dance and bring it old clothes then you could swap with everyones elses clothing or accessoires items
  • you could have a rummage sale
  • go earth day you could get the whole to wear green.
  • you could have a day where the school goes outside and collects garbage from outside
  • you could do different things to make your school make eco-freindly
I who this helps and inspires you to start your own go green club or join one that is already at your school.

Carbon Rally Week 1: 05/09/10

So my carbon rally challenges have come to an end, expect for the super challenge which is veg out. The other two didn't go so well. My reuseable water bottle broke and didn't get a new one so I went back to plastic bottles and half my lunch was packed with litter. I relize that these challenges are extremly hard to finsh successfully. So I have decied to redo these challenges in the summer when I have nothing to do.

Look Good, Save Money

Did you know that every year 20 billon pounds of clothes end up in landfills. Or that more than half of your wardrobe is filled if clothes you don't wear. Instead of throwing them out help and earth and....

  1. donate your clothing to a second hand store where other people can reuse it.
  2. swap with a friend so they get some of your clothing and you get some clothing in return
  3. If you have a young sibling give them your clothing ( hand me downs)
  4. swap online. Use websites like makeupalley, where you can sawp beauty iteams and accessories like book and clothing
  5. sell you stuff online use websites like ebay
  6. have a yard sale and sell your old things and get money in return to buy new things you need
  7. upcycle your clothing. In other words turn it into something else. ( ex. take a long skirt and make it shorter
  8. donate your clothing to a charaity, a place that really needs it.

Eco-Friendly Dates

Go to the movies, get dinner, go home. Sound familiar? While to thousands of teens and young adults this is want they do when they go on dates or spent time with there friends, so today I am hoping to break that trend and introduce you to a couple of fun dates that benefit the environment.

  1. plant trees: I actually went on a trip with my class to plant tresses in a park. It was fun and we helped the environment too!
  2. go for a walk in the park: you get exercise, get some talking time with the person and you get to see this beautiful planet.
  3. pick it up: on your walk you can pick up some trash on the ground which can be fun.
  4. make an organic meal
  5. throw a picnic in the park: don't forget to pick up your litter
  6. go to a recycling center and learn more about recycling
  7. go rollerblading, bike riding or jogging
